1930s Uranium Glass Flush Mount Ceiling Light, Hand-Painted Porcelain Art Deco

Glows Green Under UV, Glows Warm By Day: A 1930s Uranium Glass Flush Mount
Few fixtures do double duty quite like this one. By lamplight it is simply lovely — a softly glowing globe cradled in an ivory porcelain bowl, its surface hand-painted with clusters of blue and orange blossoms and trailing green leaves. Switch off the room light and bring a blacklight close, though, and the glass shade reveals its secret, fluorescing the bright, otherworldly green that only genuine uranium glass produces. It is the kind of detail that turns a ceiling fixture into a conversation piece. This flush mount dates to the 1930s, the height of the Depression Era, when even everyday lighting carried the molded leaf-and-scroll borders and concentric ring detailing of Art Deco design. The porcelain body is original, the floral decoration still vivid, and the fixture has been fitted with a new pull-chain socket and wiring so it is ready to install and use. It is a genuinely rare survivor — uranium glass shades in this condition, paired with intact hand-painted porcelain, are increasingly hard to find — and it will bring real period character to a bungalow hallway, kitchen, or vintage-styled room.

MEASUREMENTS
The fixture stands 2 1/2 inches tall. It measures 6 1/2 inches wide.

ELECTRICAL
It is rated for dry locations only. It accepts a standard medium base bulb, including incandescent, LED, or CFL types, up to a maximum of 60 watts. Bulb not included.

CONDITION
The fixture features a new porcelain pull-chain socket, new wiring and wire sheathing, a new mounting bracket, new nickel thumbnuts, and new installation hardware. The hand-painted floral decoration remains vibrant and the porcelain shade retains a pleasing gloss. The fixture is in good condition and is showing its age with only minor inconsistencies.

Find Your Part

Search our catalog by part, fitter size, or fixture type — try “2 1/4 shade”, “mogul socket”, or “sash lock”.

Need help choosing or fixing a part? Our Salvage Knowledge Library draws on Vintporium’s work since 2008 to help you identify what you have, pick the right part, or plan your own repair.

Can't Find the Part?

Looking for a matching sconce, a replacement shade, or an odd-sized fitter? Send us a photo and measurements. A large portion of our inventory is uncataloged. Many of the doors, windows, fireplace surrounds, bath fixtures, and architectural pieces in the yard never make it to the website. If you don't see it online, that doesn't mean we don't have it.

The Vintporium Heritage Standard

The Heritage Standard

Restored by hand, one at a time. Old wire out. New wire rated for present use, sound sockets, and grounding where the fixture allows. The body, glass, finish, and the marks it earned stay. Every fixture is tested on the bench before it leaves the shop.

About the Founder

Joe Golda has run Vintporium from his workshop in San José since 2008. He sources the pieces, pulls the old wiring, rewires them, finishes them by hand, and packs them himself. One person, one bench, one standard. Every fixture is tested — each socket, each switch — before it ships. What's original is called original. What's new is called new. We call this commitment to candor and craft our Heritage Standard.
