2 1/4 Fitter Bell Shade Antique Nuart Imperial Frosted Etched Glass Vintage

The Rare Signed Nuart Bell Shade by Imperial Glass — A 2 1/4 Inch Fitter Replacement That Brings a Fixture Back to Life

This Nuart bell shade by Imperial Glass Co. of Bellaire, Ohio is the shade a serious restorer searches for and rarely finds in this condition — pressed satin glass with hand-cut starburst decoration, the original Nuart signature still legible beneath the fitter lip, and a 2 1/4 inch fitter that fits the most common early electric fixtures still in circulation. Imperial launched the Nuart line in 1912 and these shades were made to dress the chandeliers, electroliers, sconces, pendant lights, and ceiling fixtures of the early electric era — precisely the fixtures that surface today in need of a period-correct replacement. The frosted satin glass body softens the light to a warm, even glow while the wheel-cut starburst motifs around the flared lower bell catch that glow with a quiet sparkle. The ruffled scalloped edge is fully intact. At 4 1/4 inches tall and 5 inches at the widest point, this is a classic early 20th-century bell shade in proportion and character, right for Art Deco, transitional, and early electric lighting projects where authenticity is not a preference — it is the requirement. The 2 1/4 inch fitter seats in standard shade holders on chandeliers, electroliers, multi-arm ceiling fixtures, wall sconces, pendant lights, and period table lamps. If you are working to restore or complete a fixture and need a shade that is both the correct size and correct in period, this is one of the pieces that makes the result genuinely right.

Find Your Part

Search our catalog by part, fitter size, or fixture type — try “2 1/4 shade”, “mogul socket”, or “sash lock”.

Need help choosing or fixing a part? Our Salvage Knowledge Library draws on Vintporium’s work since 2008 to help you identify what you have, pick the right part, or plan your own repair.

Can't Find the Part?

Looking for a matching sconce, a replacement shade, or an odd-sized fitter? Send us a photo and measurements. A large portion of our inventory is uncataloged. Many of the doors, windows, fireplace surrounds, bath fixtures, and architectural pieces in the yard never make it to the website. If you don't see it online, that doesn't mean we don't have it.

The Vintporium Heritage Standard

The Heritage Standard

Restored by hand, one at a time. Old wire out. New wire rated for present use, sound sockets, and grounding where the fixture allows. The body, glass, finish, and the marks it earned stay. Every fixture is tested on the bench before it leaves the shop.

About the Founder

Joe Golda has run Vintporium from his workshop in San José since 2008. He sources the pieces, pulls the old wiring, rewires them, finishes them by hand, and packs them himself. One person, one bench, one standard. Every fixture is tested — each socket, each switch — before it ships. What's original is called original. What's new is called new. We call this commitment to candor and craft our Heritage Standard.
