1950's Porcelain Rooster Portable Lamp and Match Holder Wall or Table
Ceramic rooster decor has been used in kitchens for, well, as long as there have been kitchens I guess. It was a celebrated by the Italians as far back as 1400 when the roosters were celebrated for thwarting an assignation attempt on Giuliano. After World War I the ceramic rooster became a common sight in French country decor and has stood as a symbol of peasant bravery and pride. The rooster is a rich symbol in Feng Shui beliefs also. In 1950's America the rooster decor became quite popular probably in part by the above-mentioned influences but also it's just super cute.
